I've been working on a number of interesting projects lately, from installing an attic access ladder to a complete remodel of a double-wide prefab home, but I wanted to post today about a little project that made a substantial difference to the look and feel of a front entrance. Sorry, I didn't get a "before" shot, but the original build had the roof line come down to just 7' of clearance, barely higher than the door itself, which crowded the entryway

. I removed the soffits, framed a bit of a cathedral ceiling into the attic space, installed tongue-and-groove pine on the now-higher ceiling, and redid the siding and door surround. The look is much more inviting and when a few decorative elements are added to the more open space, it will even more so make visitors feel comfortable even before entering the home.
